Ideas For Winter Woodworking Projects

But in reality, I think winter is the absolute best time of the year to work on wood projects.

It’s cold outside, the weather stinks and you’re outdoor activities are limited. I used to love the cold weather, but the older I get the more I enjoy staying inside where it’s warm and dry.

I have always enjoyed woodworking and used to struggle with what types of projects I should be working on during the winter. I do like making gifts for the holidays and have made, wooden reindeer wood toys, and other artsy projects that can be completed fast and mass produced. When I say mass produced, all I mean is making 2 or three duplicate items at a time, that way I have several gifts that I can give when I’m done.

Once I hit this time of year, I begin to focus my woodworking activities to the warmer months. That’s because I love creating outdoor living furniture, tables and items like planters, birdhouses and things like that. Since it takes several months to finish a typical project, this is the perfect time for me to get started.

On problem that I used to have was finding good ideas for woodworking projects, I could literally spend hours a day trying to find a good plan, and got tired of buying single plans at $10-$30 apiece.

Now I just go online, login to Teds Woodworking and search for plans. They have tons of ideas and it’s easy for me to search from one large database then to hop around to a bunch of miscellaneous sites. Since thy have something like 1,600 woodworking plans, all organized and sortable, I can usually find a suitable plan in less than an hour. Again, I’m kinda slow on the old computer and I enjoy looking at all the ideas that Ted has on his website. Once I pick out my plan I just download it and start my project. Sometimes I print out the plans, other times I just refer to the plan on my computer that depends on what I’m building.

This year I’m going to be doing a big project and am going to be building a complete yard set with 2 Adirondack chairs a side table and a matching picnic table with four benches. It should keep me busy for the next few months.

It’s time that you get started on your summer projects, it will be here before you know it!
